About

Actual Budget is a fully open-source, self-hosted budgeting app with a documented local API: manage accounts, balances, transactions, budgets, categories, payees, and rules from JavaScript/TypeScript. No vendor account or key is needed. You point the API at your own Actual server (or local budget file) with the server URL and password. Local bank sync runs from your own machine.

Setup

  1. Self-host Actual Budget (Docker or npm) or run it locally. Free and open source.
  2. Install the @actual-app/api package from npm.
  3. Point init() at your data directory or server URL and password, then call budget APIs.
