DashScope is Alibaba Cloud's Model Studio, the home of the Qwen models. First activation in the Singapore (International) region auto-grants about one million tokens per model (input and output combined), valid for 90 days. The API is OpenAI-compatible, and a Free Quota Only mode stops calls instead of billing you, so it cannot charge you by accident.

Setup

  1. Create an Alibaba Cloud account and open Model Studio in the Singapore (International) region.
  2. Activate the free quota; about one million tokens per model lands on your account.
  3. Create an API key and note it.
  4. Point your OpenAI-compatible client at the DashScope endpoint.
  5. Turn on Free Quota Only mode so calls stop instead of billing when the quota runs out.
