Braintree's free sandbox account (with test card numbers and SDKs) lets developers build and test card payments, vaulting, PayPal and digital wallet payments, and subscriptions without touching real funds. Production requires separate approval, but the sandbox is self-serve.

Setup

  1. Sign up free for a Braintree sandbox account.
  2. Copy the sandbox merchant ID, public key, and private key from the control panel.
  3. Integrate with the Drop-in UI or Hosted Fields and process transactions in sandbox mode.
