Brave runs its own search index. One of the few real alternatives to Google and Bing. And sells API access to it. Every plan currently includes $5 of free credits each month, which covers roughly a thousand searches. A payment card is required, so treat it as a free tier rather than a free-forever plan.

Setup

  1. Go to brave.com/search/api and create an account.
  2. Add a payment method to activate your plan.
  3. Copy your subscription token from the dashboard.
  4. Call the web search endpoint with the X-Subscription-Token header.
