About

Turnstile is Cloudflare's free replacement for reCAPTCHA: it verifies visitors are human with invisible browser checks instead of 'click all the traffic lights' puzzles. It's free with generous limits, respects privacy (no tracking cookies), and works even if your site isn't hosted on Cloudflare. You drop a small widget on your form and verify the result on your server.

Setup

  1. Create a free Cloudflare account and go to Turnstile in the dashboard
  2. Click Add a site and enter your website's domain
  3. Copy the site key and secret key Cloudflare gives you
  4. Add the widget script tag and a <div class="cf-turnstile" data-sitekey="..."> to your form
  5. On form submit, send the token to the siteverify endpoint with your secret key and check that success is true
