About
Language models go stale the moment a library ships a new version, and agents happily write code against last year's docs. Context7 is a free MCP server that fetches up-to-date, version-specific documentation on demand, so your agent reads today's docs instead of its training data. It is MIT licensed, installs with one command into any MCP-compatible client, and an optional free API key raises the rate limits. If your coding agent keeps inventing API methods that do not exist, this is the fix.

Setup
- Install Node.js if you do not have it
- Add the Context7 server block to your MCP client config, as shown above
- Restart your client so it picks up the new server
- Ask your agent to use Context7 whenever it touches an unfamiliar library
Example
{
"mcpServers": {
"context7": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@upstash/context7-mcp"]
}
}
}Use cases
- Stop coding agents from hallucinating library APIs
- Give an agent current docs for fast-moving frameworks
- Add reliable documentation lookup to any MCP-compatible assistant
