About

Mistral's own platform hosts their Large, Medium, Small, and Codestral models with an Experiment free mode that needs no credit card. The API is OpenAI-compatible, so your agent code usually needs one URL change, and the models have native function calling for tool use. Heads up: free-tier data is used for training by default, but you can opt out in Admin settings.

Setup

  1. Go to console.mistral.ai and create an account with your email.
  2. Complete the phone verification step.
  3. Open the API Keys section and create a key.
  4. Point your OpenAI-compatible client at https://api.mistral.ai/v1 and start chatting.
  5. Optional: in Admin settings, opt out of having your free-tier data used for training.
