About
ntfy (pronounced 'notify') is a beautifully simple free service: you pick a topic name, subscribe to it in the free ntfy app, and anything sent to that topic address pops up on your phone like a text message. Sending is literally one command. It's fully open source and can also be self-hosted. No account, no API key, no credit card. Just a topic name.

Setup
- Install the free ntfy app on your phone from your app store
- Open the app and tap to subscribe to a topic. Make up a random, hard-to-guess name like 'erics-server-alerts-9x7'
- That's the setup. Now anyone who knows the topic can send to it with: curl -d "message here" ntfy.sh/your-topic-name
- Send a test and watch the notification pop up on your phone
- Wire it into your scripts, website, or automation tool as the alert channel
Example
curl -d "Backup complete!" ntfy.sh/my-backup-topicUse cases
- Get a phone alert when a long backup, download, or script finishes
- Receive uptime-monitor alerts on your phone without a paid service
- Have your smart-home or Raspberry Pi text your phone with sensor events
