Shields.io generates the little status badges you see on GitHub READMEs. Build passing, latest version, downloads, license. You build a badge with a simple URL and it renders as an image, no account or key required. It can also make live badges from your own JSON endpoint.

Setup

  1. Go to shields.io and pick a badge type, or build a static badge: https://img.shields.io/badge/<label>-<message>-<color>.
  2. Replace spaces with %20 or use double dashes.
  3. Paste the URL into Markdown: ![alt](url).
  4. Add ?style=for-the-badge or ?logo=github to customize.
